Peterhof is located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, 29 km off St. Petersburg.
One of the most sublime palace and park ensembles of the 18th/19th  centuries and one of the richest museums now, the Peterhof mansion was built as the symbol of the new Russia when it became a sea power and gained a foothold on the Baltic shores. You will find a true kingdom of fountains there, where the water elements prevail. The ghostly aerial palace is the biggest and best known building of the Peterhof ensemble, which was erected over the Grand Cascade and the Lower Park fountains under the design of B.F. Rastrelli, who lent the ‘brilliant splendor’ both inside and outside, it seems to be hovering over the sparkling water jets, tree crowns and golden sculptures. It is a great pleasure to stroll along the shady alleys of the park, with its elegant pavilions and various fountains: symbols, emblems, and squibs.
