Arkady Shabarov is a lead expert in the field of forecasting and preventing negative dynamic and geodynamic effects on coal mines. He headed and took part in the development of instructions and guidances for the mining industry and related industries concerning mineral deposits prone to rock bursts, as well as a number of other important regulatory and methodological documents. He is a co-author of a method of geodynamic zoning of mineral deposits which makes it possible to reconstruct the block structure of rock mass and identify potentially dangerous zones while mining or conducting other subsurface works. His methods of rock burst prevention have been applied in Russia, CIS countries, Poland, China and other countries. In 2000, he was awarded the Russian Federation Government Prize for the development and implementation of a set of measures for rock burst prevention in Russian mines as part of a team of specialists from the industry, research institutes, and Federal Mining and Industrial Supervision of Russia (Gosgortekhnadzor). He defended a candidate’s thesis in 1982 and a doctoral thesis in 2004. He has published several monographs and more than 200 articles. He also holds more than 50 patents for inventions.
