Professor Charlie Chunlin Li is a professor in rock mechanics in the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Norway. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences. He is the Vice President for Europe (2015-2019) in the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM). His academic and industrial experience in rock mechanics and rock engineering is more than 30 years.
Among others, he worked as a research associate for 7 years, as a ground control engineer in a deep metal mine for 4 years and as the Chief Technology Officer of a university spin-out innovation company, Dynamic Rock Support AS, for 4 years. His major interests are failure mechanics of rock and rock masses, stability analysis, and theory and practice of static and dynamic rock support. He invented a dynamic rock support device, the D-Bolt, which has been using world-widely in burst-prone deep mines and tunnels. His book “Rockbolting” was published in 2017.
