After studying civil engineering at the Technical University of Hannover Dr.-Ing. Claus Erichsen completed his doctorate as research assistant for Prof. Wittke at the RWTH Aachen. After he finished his doctoral thesis he worked as a senior engineer at the Institute for Foundation Engineering, Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics and Waterway Engineering at the RWTH Aachen, before joining the WBI-Worldwide Engineering-Team in 1989 and becoming the director of the WBI-Stuttgart office.
In 1995 Dr. Claus Erichsen switched as a managing partner to WBI-Aachen. Since 2000 Dr. Claus Erichsen is acknowledged expert and review engineer of the German Federal Railway Authority.
From 1991 to 2016 he has been Head of the section Rock Mechanics of the German Geotechnical Society (DGGT) and from 1991 to 2016 a board member of the DGGT. He has been Vice President of the International Society for Rock Mechanics (ISRM) from 2003 to 2011.
Dr. Erichsen is the author or coauthor of more than 90 publications in national and international journals and conference proceedings.
At present Dr. Claus Erichsen is involved in the Design and construction of more than 100 km of Tunnels.
